Review: Much like the Palak Paneer that Trader Joe’s sells, this Bengal Lentil mix is a boil-in-bag convenience food that tastes surprisingly decent. Made with whole chickpeas and lentils, this slightly spicy mixture of tomatoes, onions and spices is a great convenience alternative to red beans and rice. Though hot, there is an underlying sweetness that also comes through in this dish.

My biggest complaint is the tough consistency of the chickpeas, but not much more can be expected from a boil-in-bag item. Just be sure to mix this concoction up before pouring it over a serving of rice. It is quite oily and tends to separate inside of the bag after heating. It is nothing a few stirs with a spoon won’t alleviate though, and then it’s onward to quality lunch-break dining! All for only two bucks.

Trader Joe’s knock-off Tasty Bites (and actual on-brand Tasty Bites) are also the official food of I’ve Been High For 48 Hours At Burning Man And While I Wont Cook Myself If Anyone Else Is Making Some…

Which iso nly weird when you consider spicy food + hot, desert porta-potties….
