Review: Feeling under the weather, I called into work today to get over this head cold that’s been causing me to cough up things that aren’t in my head. I probably would have stayed inside all day today, away from the snow, away from the slush and away from the cold. However, seeing as there was nothing more than a freezer-burned veggie burger in the freezer, I decided to make a lightning run to the supermarket. Under the weather and American, I am hardwired to reach for chicken soup at the slightest shortness of breath. This was the first thing I reached for as I hobbled light-headedly down the aisles of the modern chapel of convenience.

For a canned soup, Campbell’s Chunky line of soups are better than most. The overabundance of rice, potato and celery served well to cover the oily stale taste of the chicken broth. The addition of wild rice in addition to plain white rice is a nice touch, but Campbell’s could stand to add more into the mix. The chicken is surprisingly fresh tasting for being canned and preserved with who-know-what kind of chemicals. Oh the miracles of modern science. I wouldn’t normally pay the full price of $2.67, but when you are sick, this discounted meal in a can seems like a home-cooked feast. It hydrated me and put some substance in my stomach and that’s just what I needed.
