Review: After grazing the holiday fields of cookies, chocolate candies and peppermint sticks, I couldn’t help but feel that something was missing from my life. Actual food. That’s why I’ve installed a fruit bowl on my kitchen table. It’s there on a temp-to-perm trial basis, but so far, I like it. I’m thinking of taking it on, full time.

The information printed on the bag these apples come in seems to be there for apple beginners. I half expected to see an explanation of how to drag and drop a file. Not only is there a “flavormeter” (completely sweet) notification of the lack of fat, cholesterol and sodium in apples and the claim that these apple taste “sweet and crunchy” (is crunchy a flavor?), but three more descriptive bullet points as well. Apparently, these apples are crisp and snappy, can be used in cooking, eaten fresh, look great, smell sweet and eat “like a dream.”

Wow.

I feel like I don’t even have to write a review. The bag did it for me.

Oh wait. The apples were not all that crunchy or crisp when compared to the other apples I’ve eaten in my life, but they were sweet and tasty. The lack of “crisp” actually did annoy me a bit…. Hold on… What’s that at the bottom of the bag in small print? “To stay crisp and juicy, keep them cold.” Wow. Way to go Michigan Apple container R&D team! You’ve thought of everything.

Me, I’m just happy I have some tasty apples in my kitchen instead of cookies and crapola. Though I do miss having some of my mother’s homemade peanut butter cups around.
