Review: After posting my last review of a dish from Karyn’s Cooked, I almost forgot to review the appetizer I ordered that night. This makes sense when I think about how very forgettable that appetizer was.
Of all of the uses in the world for tofu, a conveyance tool for barbecue sauce has to be one of the worst. Don’t get me wrong, Karyn’s barbecue sauce is probably one of the best things I put into my mouth during my dinner there, but I’d rather use something with a more pleasing taste and texture to get it onto my tongue… Like my finger… Or a spoon.
Instead, I was served three skewers of a tofu/seitan mixture that seemed to be ground and repressed to a consistency matching that of the meatloaf from a public school cafeteria. It was as if I had just put a piece of slathered Silly Putty into my mouth.
Maybe if you could lift-copy a reversal of the Get Fuzzy strip from the funnies page with these skewers, it might be worth the $3.95 Karyn’s charges. Thai skewers have flavor… Even without the barbecue sauce. These skewers just made me nostalgic for my high school ceramics class.
