Review: I am a huge fan of potato salads of all kinds. They are a simple, comforting food that allow room for personal twist and improvisation. Give me a few potatoes and avocados, a leek or two and a couple of limes and I’ll whip you up a potato salad that will have you begging for me to put out the grill and fill up all of the compartments of your picnic plate. From creamy German style to vinegar soaked, mustard coated starchy bliss, I have yet to meet a potato salad I can’t tolerate.
Mana almost changed that fact. Almost.
It’s not that Mana’s potato salad is bad. It’s not even that it is too expensive. The problem is that there is so much potential for flavor to pop with these simple ingredients, but instead, the flavors all muddle together and cancel each other out.
Made with spicy mustard, blue cheese, small waxy potatoes and what seems to be your typical mayonaise, this potato salad’s texture is perfect. The skin is left on the potatoes, just the way I like it, but the mustard and cheese is so muted, that I could just as easily be eating potatoes in reduced cream. The ingredients are fresh, but the preparation isn’t balanced (or is that too balanced?).
Nothing to see (or taste) here folks… Move along.
