Location Purchased: Trader Joe’s / 44 E. Ontario St. / Chicago, IL

Review: The flavor of this microwaveable meal is great. The consistency of the lentils is surprisingly fresh and firm, the vegetables are flavorful and the broth tastes as fresh as any broth you might make with a bunch of canned ingredients.

Despite all of these relatively positive aspects that can be attached to this microwave convenience meal, I have one major complaint that will prevent me from ever purchasing it again. The disposable dish this brothy mixture comes in is way too full. The first thing I did, after peeling back the plastic cover, was to promptly spill a generous amount of broth (as well as a few lentils) on the ground.

While this fine mix of lentils, peppers, tomatoes and other ingredients is a surprisingly tasty microwave product, I deem it dangerous for the work environ. I might consider purchasing this again for use in the kitchen, but if I am already in the kitchen, why wouldn’t I just make my own lentil dish from scratch?

Rating: 1.5 / 5

Wow, the dish was fine but the container was too full? I think you’re being a little harsh at 1.5 of 5. And it didn’t say “Spanish Lentils for Work” or come out of a work vending machine. I think you’re being a little too harsh man, just a little.

At home, if you had the time, sure make a dish from scratch, but if you want something quick, that’s when you get one of these. Sometimes, there’s no time at home to cook from scratch.

Despite your 1.5 rating, I am going to try these. Thanks for the warning of the fluid level :D

The rating probably says more about my kitchen habits than anything else. I don’t like to buy convenience foods for the kitchen. They are, by and large, wasteful in packaging and I’d rather have the raw ingredients in my kitchen. This isn’t to say that I don’t buy convenience foods (because I do), but I’d much rather cook than nuke. So if these lentils don’t provide me with a convenient lunch that I can safely and easily prepare at work, the rating goes way down.

You’re a harsh critic man. Harsh. When you open the next package, if there is one, you’ll be more careful and then the rating will go up?

Congrats on the ‘07 Resolution Savings so far…
