Review: If I keep buying all of this boil-in-bag stuff, I’ll be able to sell my refrigerator and stove and just replace it with a modest hot plate (then, maybe I could get a pinball machine in their places!). As much as I love to prepare elaborate meals from scratch and chop chives with my freshly sharpened knife, I’ve been a sauté of busy and short on cash lately. So, it’s back to the Joe for a condensed version of my favorite cuisine.
The Dal Makhani looks (as all of the other Indian Fare meals do) like puréed baby vomit, but makes up for it’s adolescent awkwardness in its eloquence and taste. This mixture included smaller black beans, a few red kidney beans in a slightly spicy brown sauce. The entire mixture has a bit of a caramel taste to it and leans toward the buttery side of things (oh, butter!). In fact, my only complaint is the buttery flavor of the Dal Makhani. Just a bit less creamy would do this dish a lot of good. Despite that minor complaint, this is nothing to pass by while fashionably strolling the aisles of your local Trader Joe’s.
