Consumatron.com - August Update

It’s a new month. Things are friggin’ hot here in Chicago. The dog days. A lot of people here are getting excited about Lollapalooza this coming weekend. For you students, it is probably your last hurrah before school starts back up. Me? I’m not going near that outdoor clusterfuck of a sunburn. Sure, there are a lot of great bands playing this year, but I’ll save my excitement for the air conditioned Tom Waits show at the Auditorium Theatre (Where I saw Radiohead) next week. Until then, I’ll be sitting inside with all of my fans on level three pointed at my head while guzzling back a few cold ones (glasses of ice water that is… Alcohol dehydrates you). Here’s the goings ons with Consumatron:

  • We quietly crossed the 1000th post mark with this review of Soga Tofu.

  • I’ve begun keeping a monthly list of events I am interested in attending on Mediatron. Come on out to one of these events and say hi!
  • I’m not sure if anyone knows this, but you can advertise on Consumatron.com. I use AdBrite. Consumatron gets between 50-100 unique visitors a day, but I will be advertising the site in the near future so this will increase. You can get in cheap now by buying a text ad for only a penny a day. Advertise on Consumatron.com now by clicking here. Any other advertising questions should be sent to the e-mail address at the very bottom of the page.
  • I forgot to mention it in my daily reviews, but I have ordered a new shipment of buttons from ButtonGuy.org. Seriously, folks, if you ever need 1″ buttons made for anything, deal with this guy. I placed my order for 650 buttons (approximately $150) on a Thursday and by the next Thursday, I was tearing open a box filled with button joy. If you are in Chicago, look for Consumatron.com Buttons around town. For everyone else, I will be selling them from the site soon. Watch the sidebar.
  • I am currently trying to secure a venue for the Consumatron.com one-year anniversary bash. As soon as the venue is known, haste will be used in making flyers, invitations and advertising materials. So far, I have confirmed two authors to read, one musician, one stand up comedian and several artists and helpers to make the night one to remember. There will be a table of stuff for you to buy as well as a barter table (just in case any of you are celebrating a personal Buy Nothing Day) where you can bring in your old junk and see if I think your offer is fair or not (hint: I like handmade items like art, paper, etc…). The date for the anniversary party is set for October 15th, 2006. Mark your calendars and stay tuned!

Everyone have a great August!
