Consumer News and Links for Feb. 1st (Evening Edition)

From the Unnecessary Gear department:

Gear4 (formerly PodGear) has come up with this fairly annoying device, called the PocketPower, which is used to charge your iPod (or other USB-rechargeable device) when you may not have access to an electrical outlet. This small Apple-looking device takes four AAA batteries and provides your iPod with up to eight hours of additional power. So you are telling me that I have to bring my iPod’s cord with me and this little annoying box of batteries? No thank you! Oh.. and the best part? The four AAA batteries that come with the device are also rechargeable! I wonder if could use one PocketPower to charge another? This device says one thing to me… more pocket clutter! From the Religious Fun-less-mentalism department:

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board has said, “Muslim women must not only shun working with men but also keep away from going out of their homes to do errands like shopping, which should be left to the men in the family.” So Muslim women aren’t supposed to work and they’re not supposed to shop outside of the house. Can they shop online? If so, may I recommend this book? After all, they are going to have a lot of free time now that they don’t have to shop or work. They might as well have something to read. From the Tests of Faith department:

In a potentially faith-shattering coincidence, Raj Travels and Tours, a company based in India, has introduced a few new women-only vacation packages. The tours include travels to the Far East and Europe which highlight stops at jewelry exhibitions and shopping sprees. I expect Qu’ran sales to go up in India. Of course, if a woman goes out to buy one, is that a betrayal of her faith as well? (Pune Newsline)
