Review: When I was growing up, my father used to jokingly repeat the line, “real men don’t eat quiche.” Later, I learned that this saying was the title of a bestselling satirical book about American masculinity in the 1980s. Well, I propose a challenge to the author, Bruce Feirstein! I propose that real mean actually do eat quiche because real men don’t listen to things that the bulk of society says about them. In going against this grain, the real men may find pleasures beyond the norms… like this tomato and basil quiche from Gourmand. The egg and cheese inside of this breakfast pie is light and fluffy. The full basil leaves found cooked inside of the dish were a bit soggy and bitter, but this was made up for by the buttery crust that everything else rest upon. The tomato slices could stand to be thicker, but other than these minor complaints, this breakfast, served with a light side salad, is well worth the $5-6 that you pay and I will be sure to order this again. This breakfast experience has renewed my faith in Gourmand. No runny eggs and no eggshells lodging in my teeth. Okay G-spot! You’ve won me back!
