Review: My girlfriend and I decided to meet up tonight after I get off of work and cook dinner together. I actually love to cook, but it has been so long since I’ve had the a) time and b) kitchen to cook anything elaborate. Dumbstruck with the endless options of what kind of fantastic creations I could use her laboratory of a kitchen to make, what did I decide on? A salad.
Yes, a salad. I could make a salad in my half-kitchen apartment, so why would I choose this special night to make a salad when I have a full kitchen at my fingertips? Well, how about because I work 10 hours a day and when I finally get off of work at 10:00 PM, take a half-hour long train ride to her house and unpack my bag of groceries, it will be almost 11:00 PM. Who wants to roast a pheasant or boil shark meat at 11:00 PM? I want to have a glass of scotch and snuggle with my girlfriend. So a salad won’t take me too long to make.
Bear in mind, this isn’t just any house salad though. This is going to be my attempt to recreate one of the best salads I have ever had. What’s in it, you ask? Well, for you, I am going to not only review each ingredient I purchased this morning, but at the end of each review, you will find a short step on how to create this salad yourself. I am going to review each ingredient in the order I plan on using them so as not to confuse you with a choose-your-own-adventure recipe. So sit back, relax, and learn how to make a damn good salad! First off, the review of these baby spinach leaves.

Lettuce is made up of mostly water and has no nutritional value. Spinach is also mostly water, but has within its leafy greens a ton of Vitamin A, C and K. Not only that, but it tastes better. I don’t really enjoy buying bagged vegetables. Something seems inherently wrong with that, but Fresh Express has always delivered just what it sounds like they would… Fresh veggies for the salad-maker with limited time on their hands. These small spinach leaves, though bagged, rarely come with a brown spot on any of them and are usually crisp to the bite. If you are in a pinch, but need some greens, one of your best bets on convenience and quality will be Fresh Express’ many bagged salad products.

Kevin’s Garbage Salad Recipe:
1. Open bag of Baby Spinach and empty contents into a large mixing bowl. Make sure there is enough room to toss all of the contents you have for your salad up in the air, catching them on the way back down. It may be called a garbage salad, but that doesn’t mean you can let the ingredients just fall all willy-nilly to the floor. Set bowl to the side until you are ready to add more ingredients.
